Haha, or the Coolmaster Stacker 832. Mine actually eat's other people's computer towers at night while I'm asleep. I tell it to stop, but it's just too much of a monster.
hehe I got that beast of a case, wait hold on. I can't remember now If mine is a 830 or an 832. they are pretty similar I think.
There is a certain brand of keyboard that I stay away from and it's any razor keyboard. They are nice keyboards but are huge port hogs, taking up a few USB while the G15 only takes up one but gives you 2 usb ports on the keyboard. Copperhead mouse is really the way to go (just an opinion on the mouse), the Copperhead is older and a little cheaper and does it's job perfectly.
When it comes to overclocking for people that want to build there own and are day dreaming of an awesome overclock. Please, don't expect it. They all overclock differently meaning that you will not always get the same overclock. your friend can buy a QX8650 (example) he overclocks his to 3.6Ghz, then you decide to go get one, but it doesn't overclock up to 3.6, while his was stable yours might not be. Sometimes people get some and can only overclock it to 3.2Ghz stable. Don't think that if someone has a high overclock that all of the 8650's will clock that high.
That being said, if your not going to overclock or maybe just a tad bit, then by all means go with AMD, their performance does lack a little bit but for the price it's an alright choice. Personally I like intel as 60% of the time you can get a really high overclock. AMD is a little bit more touble, it's a very stubborn processor and I personally hate them.

Alright, the time has come. Intel finally opened their employee purchase deal so I have a QX6850 on the way ($239 ).
I have been anticipating the build for a while so I've been slowly upgrading my current PC with parts that I'll just be moving over.
Parts I have:
RAM: 2x2 gig Corsair PC2-6400 Video Card: BFG Tech 8800GT PSU: BFG Tech 650 Watt
And of course, random optical drives that I am not too concerned about as far as updating them goes.
Part I Need: Case: I'm pretty set on the Antec Nine Hundred (can get for 90 bucks at work) Motherboard: This is the only part I am in dire need of, I can use my existing Hard Drive but I might be upgrading that as well since it's only a 250 gig.
My main question is, is the 680i chipset still the safest to go with? I want to stick with Asus because, well, that's just the bias I have developed during my research but I am open to other opinions.
I have no real desire to get too deep into overclocking, if at all. I guess I should get an SLi ready board since another 8800GT is/will be super cheap to throw in there.
It's because there will be computer upgrades until hell freezes over. People are just waiting until time goes by. We're in the middle of DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 APIs.
I'm waiting until Xmas 2009 to buy a 16-core Intel CPU. PC games won't take advantage of my Quad-Core/GTX 280 until 16 core CPUs and DirectX 11 Geforce 12s come out anyways. I might even get a Radeon HD 4870 X2 for Xmas 08, because it's free and it is just like having 2 GTX 280s anyways.
Sorry...were you responding to my post Renegade? Not that I visit enough anymore to wanna create a ruckus over this but seems rather illogical for the mods to take it down.
There is a whole new generation of gpu's/cases/etc out on the market, so the info in this thread is somewhat old. If the first post was frequently updated it would probably be restickied.

So that's where I'm at right now, just looking for suggestions on motherboards.
just go with a 680i or a 680i A1 there probably a lot cheaper now. That is what I am using in my build and I am very happy to have such a good motherboard.
Oops! sorry, I kinda skimmed through it pretty fast and didn't see that you wanted an Asus motherboard. give the Nvidia 680i or the Nvidia 680i (A1) a thought, it's a pretty darn good motherboard.

Well maybe I'm taking crazy pills but thats the entire point of a forum. Individuals each add their own 2 cents thus updating this thread with not only their opinion but newer information.

This thread no longer a sticky or am I missing something?
I'm with you on this one. I haven't been around as much lately, computers at work have been running this site really slow, as in 10 minutes or more for a page to pop up. I thought they'd blocked it till today.
Anyways, the whole point of the thread being stickied is that we wouldn't have to have a bunch of seperate build threads anymore. Did I miss something?
